Trainers are possibly the most practical trend that has come our way in years. In the past they were confined to the gym, but now, thanks to the huge revival by former Celine designer Phoebe Philo, trainers can be seen on anyone, at any age.
Trainers give a pretty dress a nonchalant, cool look, make jeans look more edgy and look immediately 'on trend' when paired with some tailored trousers.
There are so many trainer styles to choose from, sometimes it can be quite overwhelming, but my advice is stick to a style that is comfortable and flatters your feet and ankles. Try on a few different styles and you will find the ideal pair.

Stan Smith original trainers are my basic 'go to' trainer; they look cool, retro and knowing without being too shouty. White or cream trainers are a perfect place to start, as they can be worn with all outfits and look subtle but cool.
However, if you do want to give your outfits a lift this season then go for the Adidas Gazelle in a colour of your choice; they are the trainers of the season and look fabulous with a maxi/midi dress.
3 WAYS TO WEAR THE LOOK
1. With a pretty dress
This is my favourite way to wear trainers; they dress down a glamorous dress making it day-time applicable. I am huge fan of not keeping "best for best" as I really like to get maximum wear out of my clothes and this is a perfect style solution to wear your dresses.
The key to wearing this look successfully is to find a pair of trainers that flatter your ankles and legs.
If you are taller, wear your trainers with a maxi dress, and throw biker jacket over the top to add to the dress down look. If you are smaller, wear with a dress that hits just on or above your knees. It is best to stick to floaty, boho style cuts in dresses, as tailored dresses do not work as well with trainers. Think flirty and fun, cool and laid back, and you will create the look perfectly.

2. With a smart dress
For a Summer event make life comfortable by wearing a pair of white trainers with your dress. These Superga platform trainers give you added height without the discomfort of heels, are incredibly flattering on the ankles and ensure that you can be on your feet all day without pain.
This is the perfect Summer party outfit; it has a laid back look without being under-dressed. The dress works with trainers as the top is tailored but the skirt is floaty, the volume at the bottom of the skirt works to flatter legs and ankles. Simply add a basket bag for Summer outfit perfection!

3. With shorts and a blazer
I love juxtaposing a smart and casual look, and it's surprisingly easy to wear. Converse are a classic Summer trainer; they look just as good with a breton top and jeans as with a Summer dress.
The key to making any outfit work is to always have two items the same colour, as this pulls your look together. It can be a simple as two accessories or an edging on a jacket to match with your trousers. For this outfit, I wore a black jacket and cream blouse to match with the Converse, which makes the whole outfit look smarter - important when wearing trainers.
